Bi Phakathi dispels news that he’s been arrested

Popular South African businessman and philanthropist Bi Phakathi has brushed off news that he has been arrested.

Earlier, we reported on the issue alleging that Bi Phakathi had been arrested together with three members of the South African Police Services (SAPS) officers.

Allegations are that he facilitated a R580, 000 bribe to police officers.

Taking to social media in response to a post of one of bloggers on X, he said;

“Fake news, all is well. This is the last time am entertaining such vile behavior. Be blessed I love you family”

According to News 24The police officers reportedly asked the businessperson for bribes to the tune of R1 million in order to avoid the arrest of a suspect in a separate matter, but only received R580 000.

Phakathi was said to have been the one who facilitated the transactions, hence his arrest.

Many people have been questioning the source of his money as he’d randomly buy strangers groceries, as well as giving people on the streets and buses money.

Speaking to media at the time, the businessperson said he had legitimate businesses and he also received donations.

Bi Phakathi Arrest: What Really Transpired

 

The three suspects allegedly went to a residence to enquire about issues with a woman’s passport and alleged fraudulent stamps.

They later arrested her and threatened to arrest her son as well, while hinting that a R1 million payment could settle the matter.

The woman eventually agreed to pay the suspects an amount of R500,000.

She then reported the matter to the Directorate for Priority Primes Investigation.

The complainant has since been released.
