Walter Magaya raises four questions regarding TB Joshua BBC documentary

PHD Ministries leader Walter Magaya has finally spoken as the BBC documentary exposing how TB Joshua raped his disciples rages on.

On 8 January 2023, the BBC released a three-part series titled “Disciples: The Cult of TB Joshua”. It reveals evidence of widespread abuse and torture by the founder of one of the world’s biggest Christian evangelical churches, the Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN).

The Documentary That Shook Africa

The documentary features testimonies from more than 25 former members of the church, who allege atrocities such as rape, forced abortions, physical violence, and fake miracle healings by the late TB Joshua, who died in June 2021. The documentary also exposes how the church silenced and attacked those who tried to speak out against the abuse.

The first episode chronicles how two British teenagers were drawn to TB Joshua’s church after watching a VHS tape of him performing miracles. The second episode, “The Disciples”, shows how the former members were trapped in TB Joshua’s church in Lagos, where they faced his abuse and control. The third episode, “The Collapse”, covers the aftermath of the church guest house collapse in 2014, which killed 116 people, and how some of the survivors managed to escape the church and expose TB Joshua’s secrets.

The SCOAN responded to the BBC and said the allegations against TB Joshua are not new and they are unsubstantiated.

PHD Ministries leader Walter Magaya has added his voice to the TB Joshua saga. The late Nigerian televangelist was Magaya’s spiritual son. On many occasions, Magaya flew to Nigeria to meet TB Joshua and attend church services.

As former SCOAN disciples accused TB Joshua of raping women and underage girls, Magaya responded subtly:

“So long any story is one-sided, do not give it trust. Ask yourself four questions:

1. Why now?
2. What caused it?
3. What would the enemies do and how far can they go?
4. How does the devil use people?
May God bless you.”
