Man Arrested For Impregnating Girl (14) Who Died While Giving Birth

THE man who impregnated a 14-year-old girl who died from complications after giving birth earlier this month has been arrested.

Tinashe Chibuwe, who had been on the run, was apprehended and taken to court on allegations of having sex with a minor. He appeared in the Chivhu Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody.

Delight Masomere’s uncle, Norris Jones Matarirano, said his niece was the second of Chibuwe’s three wives.

Chibuwe belongs to the Johane Marange Apostolic Church sect, and his third wife is also 14 years old.

Matarirano stated that the family wanted justice for Delight because she was an underage girl when she was married off to Chibuwe.

“Some of us did not even know that she was married. We thought she was in school.

“Now we want justice for her and for all the other girls who are victims of such. We are happy that Chibuwe has been arrested and we hope justice will prevail,” he said.

Girl child rights activists have time and again raised concerns over a surge in underage girls that die giving birth.
