Breaking: Jacob Ngarivhume Jailed 4 Years

Transform Zimbabwe president Jacob Ngarivhume has been sentenced to four years for calling for demonstrations on 31st July 2020 against corruption.

Harare Magistrate Mrs Feresi Chakanyuka convicted Ngarivhume on Thursday on charges of inciting violence.

His lawyer, Professor Madhuku has promised to make an appeal against the sentencing to the High Court and also applied for bail pending the appeal.

According to Zimbabwean journalist Hopewell Chin’ono Ngarivhume will serve an effective three years.

He also says that charges laid out against the politician are “bogus”.

The magistrate said he will serve 3 years in prison.

Ngarivhume was first arrested on 20 July 2020 for calling for the demonstrations penciled for 31 July, 2020.

Zimbabwe’s constitution allows for citizens to demonstrate peacefully.

The ZANUPF regime has target journalists who exposed corruption jailing them using laws that don’t exist and using bogus charges.

Speaking after his sentencing, Ngarivhume said that the government is not willing for him to participate in the up coming election but “will remain resolute.”

“We understand what they are trying to achieve, they want to silence all voice of dissent in this country.”, he said.
