Benni McCathy mocked for looking fat

Benni McCarthy has been fat-shamed for his looks before. This comes after Manchester United’s social media pages released a photo of him at training.

Benni, a retired South African player, has received accolades at the UK club, where he serves as a coach.

On Tuesday, February 13, the Manchester United X account shared a photo of Benni McCarthy. Fans of the club, notably South Africans, praised the former footballer for keeping the squad on a winning streak.

However, a handful of tweeps poked fun at the 46-year-old’s weight gain over the years.

FINED FOR BEING OVERWEIGHT

During his player days back in 2010, Benni McCarthy’s weight was also a talking issue.

In fact, the then Westham player was fined almost R1 million for failing to beat the bulge.

According to the Sowetan, Benni was 12 kg overweight at the time. That same year, the star failed to make the squad for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

Speaking to MailOnline that same year, Benni said: “‘I’m the type of person who, if I don’t train hard, I pick up weight. With my bone structure, body structure, if I don’t train with intensity, I will get bigger”.

Benni retired from professional football in 2015.
