Durban businessman identified as the person who paid for AKA, Tibz murders

JOHANNESBURG – Durban businessman Mziwethemba Gwabeni will on Tuesday morning apply for bail in the murder case of Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.

Gwabeni has been pointed out as the paymaster in the case, with the State alleging he received more than R800,000 as payment for the murder before sharing the cash with his co-accused.

Gwabeni was unable to proceed with his bail application in the Durban Magistrates Court on Monday due to certain documents that the State wanted omitted from his affidavit.

These included emails the State prosecutor shared with one of the defence attorneys, which should have not been leaked to Gwabeni’s legal team.

“I was shocked when I saw that my emails formed part of accused four’s application,” said State prosecutor Advocate Lawrence Gcaba
