Black Mamba Bite Leaves Woman In Critical Condition
A woman is in critical condition after being bitten by a Black Mamba in her Tinley Manor, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) home on Wednesday, 15 March 2023.

Paramedics said the woman was in critical condition when they arrived.
According to the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), the Blac Mamba lives in sub-Saharan Africa. It is one of Africa’s deadliest and fastest snakes, and they are highly poisonous.
SNAKES ARE DANGEROUS
“They have coffin-shaped heads and are graceful, athletic snakes. The average adult black mamba is 2.0 – 2.5 metres long, with a maximum length of 4.3 metres (14 feet). Despite its name, the snake is not black. Instead, it ranges from grey to dark brown, with a lighter underside. The Black refers to the colour of the inside of its mouth,” as described by the SANBI.

IPSS decided to activate AMS Medivac Helicopter to transport the woman to a health facility for treatment. AMS Medivac helicopter paramedics airlifted the woman to a suitable health facility in Durban.
A SNAKE CATCHES THE BLACK MAMBA
At around 18:45 on Thursday and with the guidance of Neville Wolmerans, a snake expert and a resident, the snake was positively identified as a Black Mamba.
The Black Mamba was relocated to a safe environment away from humans.
