The Commodores finished their season 22-14 overall and tied for the No. 4 team in the SEC. They lost to Texas A&M in the semifinals of the conference tournament. In the NIT, they matched up first with Yale, beating them 71-62 to advance.
In the second round, they took on Michigan and just barely edged them out 66-65 on a game-winning layup with 11 seconds left by Tyrin Lawrence who finished the game with 24 points on 10-for-17 shooting.
