Sundowns Secures Another Victory With 4-0 Win
Mamelodi Sundowns secured a convincing 4-0 win over Golden Arrows in the DStv Premiership at Lucas Moripe Stadium to continue their unbeaten run in the new campaign.
Masandawana controlled the match from start to finish with their attacking schemes, Themba Zwane’s ball into the box prices to be deadly as Marcelo Allende got to the end of it. Allende then connected his pass to Neo Maema who took a shot but was unfortunate to hit the side of the net in his attempt.
A few minutes later after the first attempt, Allende delivered a cross from the corner flag, Rivaldo Coetzee set out to take his shot at goal but his efforts saw the ball go off target. Allende was busy once again and involved in carving out goal opportunities, he delivered in his corner which got into the box, Coetzee and Mothobi Mvala made touches on the delivery then shared it with Shalulile who then scored in acrobatic style, putting Masandawana ahead.
The second goal for Downs didn’t take long to come by, newly signed Lesiba Nku scored his first goal for Sundowns. The players in yellow were passing the ball to each other in and around the box when Maema finally got a cut back into the box that Nku finished off. The action for The Brazilians was only getting started, Grant Kekana had his shot at the back of Ismail Watenga’s net but his goal was not awarded after the referee judged it as offside.
A few minutes before heading into the break, Grant pulled one in from the near post with his head from Allende’s cross to score his first league goal of the season. The defending champions took a 3-0 lead into the first half, while on the other side the visitors struggled to break through the solid defense of Sundowns with no shots at goal.
Coming into the second half Masandawana made triple changes from the beginning of the half, Bongani Zungu, Bathusi Aubaas and Terrence Mashego exchanged places with Zwane, Allende and Teboho Mokoena. With two minutes played already, Downs continued to apply pressure on Arrows. Nku snatched a brace when he latched on to Neo Maema’s attempt that the keeper had pushed out.

With less than 30 minutes left to play, Namibian international Shalulile picked up an injury and was carried out by medical staff members and the young Siyanda Nyanga was called to finish the task as he came on to the field. Junior Mendieta, who had come on for Coetzee, was instrumental in putting pressure on Arrows last line and nearly beat Watenga when he laid his feet on the bouncing ball in the final third.
Abafana Bes’thende were unable to find a foothold throughout the match with Downs’ defense and midfield shutting down their attempts to mount a comeback. The final whistle signaled a well-deserved 4-0 victory for Bafana Ba Style as they continued with their winning momentum.
