Nigerian musician Mohbad dies

The Nigerian music industry is mourning the loss of one of its brightest talents Mohbad who died at the age of 27.

Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. The cause of his death has not been disclosed by his family or management team, who have asked for privacy as they come to terms with the unbearable loss.

“It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of Promise Oladimeji Aloba PK/A Mohbad (Imole) today, the 12th of September, 2023. Mohbad was Light until the very end, and as we mourn the loss of the brightness he carried, the family thanks you for your love and prayers and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time. Imole is finally at Peace.”

Mohbad shot to fame as a protégé of Naira Marley, the controversial rapper and leader of the Marlian movement. He was signed to Marlian Records in 2019, where he released several hit songs that showcased his versatility and street-hop style.

Some of his popular tracks include “Ponmo”, “Feel Good”, and “KPK (Ko Por Ke)”, a collaboration with producer Rexxie that became a viral sensation and earned him three nominations at The Headies Awards in 2022.

Mohbad was known for his catchy hooks, witty lyrics, and unique voice that resonated with millions of fans across Nigeria and beyond. His colleagues and mentors in the music industry praised him for his work ethic, creativity, and humility. The star dropped his debut album, “Light”, in December 2022, which featured guest appearances from Davido, Lil Kesh, and Zlatan among others.

 

However, behind the scenes, Mohbad was reportedly going through a lot of challenges and struggles that affected his health and well-being. His wife, Wunmi, who is also a singer, revealed in an Instagram live session that Mohbad had been suffering from a lot of pain and threats before his death.

She disclosed that he had been battling depression, anxiety, and insomnia for a long time and that he had been receiving treatment from different doctors and therapists. She also said that he had been facing some legal issues and blackmail from some people who wanted to ruin his career.

He was a loving husband and father who always tried to make her happy despite his mounting problems
